Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered a variety of engaging indie games. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a character that is literally a dung attempting to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and access a market to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.
Time your actions with caution, since one error requires beginning again. Bounce on floating orbs to hurl yourself higher, navigate crumbling ledges, and activate buttons to unlock new areas. Gather currency to purchase tougher levels in which the action gets crazy.
In terms of design, the game shows off neon environments and catchy music score. The simple visual style of shifting abstract forms may remind fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although hard to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, video games have long incorporated scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from protagonist waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, including winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on PC on November 19.
