The Banking Giant Requires Fingerprint or Eye Scans for Main Office Entry

The financial institution has notified personnel working at its state-of-the-art corporate base in New York that they have to submit their biometric data to enter the multi-billion structure.

Shift from Voluntary to Mandatory

The financial firm had previously intended for the registration of physical identifiers at its new skyscraper to be voluntary.

Nevertheless, workers of the biggest American bank who have commenced employment at the corporate hub since August have been sent electronic messages stating that biometric entry was now "compulsory".

How Biometric Access Works

This security method requires staff to provide their hand geometry to enter entry points in the lobby in place of swiping their identification cards.

Office Complex Information

The bank's headquarters, which reportedly required an investment of three billion dollars to develop, will in time act as a home for thousands of workers once it is completely filled before year-end.

Safety Justification

JP Morgan did not provide a statement but it is believed that the employment of biometric data for entry is intended to make the facility more secure.

Exemption Provisions

There are exemptions for specific personnel who will retain the ability to use a ID card for access, although the criteria for who will utilize more standard badge entry remains unclear.

Supporting Mobile Applications

In addition to the introduction of biometric readers, the bank has also introduced the "Corporate Access" mobile app, which acts as a electronic pass and portal for worker amenities.

The platform permits users to handle external entry, explore building layouts of the premises and schedule food from the building's 19 restaurant options.

Broader Safety Concerns

The implementation of tighter entry controls comes as business organizations, especially those with major presence in New York, look to strengthen protection following the incident of the chief executive of one of the biggest American insurance companies in July.

The executive, the head of the healthcare company, was the victim of the attack not far from the bank's location.

Additional Office Considerations

It is not known if the banking institution intends to deploy biometric access for personnel at its offices in other important economic centers, such as the British financial district.

Employee Tracking Developments

The action comes during debate over the implementation of digital tools to observe staff by their organizations, including observing workplace presence.

Previously, all staff members on flexible arrangements were directed they have to report to the office full-time.

Leadership Viewpoint

The bank's chief executive, the prominent banker, has described the company's recently opened skyscraper as a "tangible expression" of the organization.

The banker, one of the global financial leaders, this week cautioned that the chance of the American markets experiencing a decline was much more substantial than many financiers believed.
